Ranomi Kromowidjojo's Short Course 100m Freestyle - 51.44

I can't decide whether this is a surprise or not. I expected Rebecca Soni to win, but voted for Kromowidjojo's 50m Free. I also thought that Soni's 200m Breast would get at least as many votes as her 100m Breast but that didn't happen either.

  1. Ranomi has more buzz about her than Soni, which is why I voted for her.

  2. Not gonna lie, I'm surprised. Maybe it's just because I live in American, where the Olympics are what's super-hyped - and no offense to Ranomi - I feel like short course swims don't mean as much as long course. Not that I doubt Ranomi COULD have done something amazing long course, I do expect her to in Shanghai. Great swims, but not nearly as stunning as Soni's 1:04.9. Seriously, who saw that coming? The 2:20.6... not really stunning, I expected a 2:19. But to be under Jones' best time, without a suit. And match what she won Worlds in? Sick. I think my jaw dropped when I saw that haha.

And to prove I'm not just being an obnoxious American: I'd put Zhao's 100 back ahead or tied with Coughlin's short course swim. Sub-59 means something. Her 200 back definitely ahead of Coughlin. All things said... really hard to compare swims from short and long course.
