Behind The Scenes With Fred Bousquet In Auburn

A good video showing a glimpse of Fred Bousquet's life in Auburn.... No sign of Laure Manaudou though.

  2. Doping, really? I actually think he looks a bit on the thin side.

  3. He has had a lot of needles stuck into him, although I think they were filled with ink.

  5. Hasn't Fred already had a doping suspension.. The sad truth is that lots of top swimmers dope and have to, to stay in contention amongst the top. Also, it's not always about big muscles.

I am not the same poster as the first Anonymous, but if you don't like anonymous posters, then save the mocking and stop allowing anonymous comments.

  6. Are you referring to the token two month suspension for using haemorrhoid cream last year?

I have nothing against anonymous posters, in fact I've tried to make it as easy as possible for anyone to post a comment here. The 'anonymity cloak' jab was simply due to the provocative one word comment that got this ball rolling. Post away!

  8. So when is it not 'token'? The person who tested positive will nearly always have an explanation they say exonerates them. I just want to know when you actually believe the testers and not the explanations the athletes come up with.

Please don't say it's because it's something that doesn't have doping benefits, because it does in this specific case. If it's something like marijuana, that would be fine to say.

The reality is that the athletes in most sports are ahead of the testers pretty much most of the time and that because of this, most of what the testers do is worthless.

  9. I have faith in the testers and I have faith in the swimmers, until an athlete tests positive that is. Then the usual excuses will come out, which you have to take with a grain of salt. However, my faith in the testers (and the federations) remain and I trust them to determine the truth ie. intentional or accidental doping.

Bousquet had a suspension as he took a substance which aids performance, heptaminol dilates blood vessels allowing more blood to flow. My understanding is that it has a very short term effect(I am neither a scientist or a user of heptaminol so feel free to correct me if you are). The important part for me is that he was cleared of knowingly taking a performance enhancing drug. That is enough for me not to label him as a drugs cheat.

Look... I realise our sport is not 100% clean, but I also can't understand people who let their scepticism take over. Look at the reaction to last year's success of the 14/15 year old Chinese girls, there was an underlying feeling that it must have been doping. However, the same was not said when Yolane Kukla burst onto the scene. Yes, China has a dark history with doping, but they also employ some of the world's best coaches and have pumped a huge amount of money and effort into their swimming program... i'm going to put my faith in the success being down to that until proven otherwise.

  10. Well said Tom!
And just because he made 21.36 in a jammer?
I bet he will go faster at the World Champs, but it will not be capable to beat Cielo.
