For many years, this was one of the events I had least interest in, however, now you've got Liu and Jiao, followed by a host of 205 hopefuls in Belmonte, Hosszu, Kalabos--swimmers who usually drop a lot of time going into Championships-- also, this list of hopefuls is not exclusive. I think It will take a time faster than Schipper's old textile record to claim the bronze, and I just don't think Gandy will be the third swimmer in this equation.john26noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1250367211605373057.post-2952324689345524512011-04-26T20:42:59.484+01:002011-04-26T20:42:59.484+01:00Renato, a incredible terrible finish.

In Beijing and Rome, it was 'hoped' that she would do well, and she disappointed. Now it is expected that she will do well. How will she respond? I will take your point on Tancock & Simmonds but rember they both still won Gold medals at champs, another factor is where were Gandy's fastest times last year? Her fastest fly's on every distance was at a big Championship which shows after Rome she is beginning to get her head together, i think no matter her mental strength a 2.05 swimmer can not be factored up or down. Also could the same be said for Zige in London? Has she won a championships race outside China? Where have all her best times been set?
I stick to my prediction of 1.Jiao 2.Gandy 3.Zige (Not sure about Zige to be honest, but i would nail gold to Jiao)

Also, i will be there on the same night, followed Gandy for a long time and have been quite close to her old club (Beckenham) for some time, Maybe that makes me a little bias towards her but her old coaches built my confidence, i have been 'assured' her stroke technique is better than ever!Jacknoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1250367211605373057.post-35227205837893317952011-04-26T14:16:03.455+01:002011-04-26T14:16:03.455+01:00Cielo has just swum a 53s0x on 100 fly with a terr...Cielo has just swum a 53s0x on 100 fly with a terrible finish, a few days ago.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0kE_8xTdU30&feature=related

He'll come back strong on 100 meters this summerRenatohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09900680546458341458noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1250367211605373057.post-47175863495188943922011-04-26T11:24:08.404+01:002011-04-26T11:24:08.404+01:00Some swimmers can swim fast but just lack that kil...Some swimmers can swim fast but just lack that killer focus and performance - dealing well with pressure - with regard to high profile meets. And remember Jiao & Zige had eachother to push on, Belmonte & Hoshi had nobody and the same could be argued for Gandy, it was fairly close, close enough for Gandy to be aware but she had a second on Lowe at halfway and even more at the final turn and then fell off the pace, i expect her to get close to her British record in Shanghai (2.04.84) as she is alreday close to her 100M best and has set a new 50m PB!Jacknoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1250367211605373057.post-20152274241628027432011-04-25T04:21:38.627+01:002011-04-25T04:21:38.627+01:00Thorpe's 49.7 as a 16 year old in budgie smugg...Thorpe's 49.7 as a 16 year old in budgie smugglers does hint at a 100m potential even more than his 48.59 Athens bronze whilst 'wishing he was not there'. He had 4 of the top6 performances from last year, and in my opinion, his 47.27 in lzr in Rome is arguably similiar in quality with Cielo's WR. I'm not totally sure why, but he's by far the most underrated top sprinter.

That said, I'm not confident Hayden would even medal this summer, but if he does some home take home the gold, this would NOT an upset.

I think which ever 2 australians show up (Im convinced its going to be magnussen and probably one of the Abood brothers), the 2 french (I'm thinking Agnel and Gilot), the 2 Russians (Lagunov and Izotov), the two Americans (Adrian and Phelps), Hayden and Cielo, the field, in terms of PRs is going to be separated by something like .3, and it will come down to who races better. This is probably going to be one of the most open event going in, unless someone decides to rip one this summer. By this I mean not just like a 47.8, but maybe 47.6 or 47.5.

About Phelps, I think he is going to take up the 100free and drop the 200IM. I think he'll come to realize that if he keeps the IM, it'll just be the beijing schedule, just "easier". I don't see "an easier Beijing" as fulfilling "everything he ever set out to do in the sport", because although I think he can improve on each of the 4 events, there's anything that would make people open their eyes.

THe only way he can "improve" upon Beijing is by taking the 100m freestyle. If he can when this gold, even if he doesn't go anywhere near the WR, it will probably, from the sport's pov, be his most impressive achievement.jon26noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1250367211605373057.post-17487304476176120192011-04-22T14:25:34.632+01:002011-04-22T14:25:34.632+01:00The American's? I am far from sold on the US female flyer's fullstop though, minus Vollmer
I think 2.04 will medal and it will be 1.Zige 2.Gandy (New BR) 3.Liuyang...Followed by Belmonte & Schipper! Zige needs to be careful, since Beijing she has seemed to get over excited when it matters and gone out too fast.

For me the 100FR is unpredictable, so many names (All from 3/4 countries) that are capable of winning, I have a funny feeling about Gilot he is not France's pin-up sprinter but at this moment in time he looks the best of their's, always delivers.Jacknoreply@blogger.com
